Aresvista
This last week I wanted to try out a new peer to peer (p2p) network for sharing files. As anyone who uses p2p knows, they are infamous for being loaded with spyware and other malicious software that can be really difficult to remove off of a computer. So, I made sure all of my antivirus software was up to date on vista and went out searching.
I came across the aresvista.com website which offers a p2p client that I have not heard of before. Hence the name, it was called Ares Vista. Hence the names, Ares Vista is probably tailored to those of us using the Vista operating system. It has been around for quite a while but I had not heard of it up until now. There were a few things that intrigued me about it. It appeared to have a very simple interface, an extremely large user base, and a chat room.
I went out to download Ares and the process was quite simple. When there is a big button directly on the page that says “Download Ares Vista” it does not make it too complicated. I quickly downloaded it and installed. To my surprise, I actually did not find any malicious software that was attached to it.
Connecting to the network was extremely simple too. Once I had it installed and loaded it up, everything seemed to be right there. I did a few quick searches on some decently popular free software and found several results quickly.
To top it off, I found that the user base was quite large. There seemed to be some good discussion going among the chat room I was in. I never asked any questions, but saw a few others ask a couple of things and they seemed to be a helpful bunch. The software seemed pretty straight forward though with a very nice clean looking platform.
