Need For Speed Undercover made for PSP puts you and the law on the same side in the game but unfortunately is not as exciting as it sounds. Like the past portable version, undercover leaves out the open world exploration and concentrates just on racing events while on this games Career mode. There’s a story where your role is an undercover cop who is sent to filter out illegal racing under orders of an attractive boss- all played in live-action by Maggie Q. Being skilled in driving , you attempt getting popular hoping to be your targets wheelman.

The story sounds very exciting but actually falls apart quite quickly on PSP since your career the undercover cop does not go further than various messages from the boss and some cut scenes. The disappointing thing about this version – besides no random street races or exploration – is that each race is introduced via the menu screen. Is that boring or what?
You get started by purchasing a car then racing in a range of racing events and all this for money that can be used to purchase faster vehicle. You earn Style points these points are earned for performing daring students like slipping in-between you racing opponents or misses oncoming traffic. Every race event changes but the main objective is to win the lead from the other races. The basic events are same as other Need for Speed such as Checkpoints, Lap Knockout, Circuit and Sprint. Outrun and Highway Battle involves something like an open road but still very limited.
Most of the exciting races are called Wanted Events, the Drivers jobs, and the Boss Races. In these Wanted Events you will enjoy race events like Escape (dodge the cops), Cop Take Out (here cop cars are destroyed) and Cost to State (here you gain points by causing damage to collateral). The Boss Races also includeChasedown where you chase down and then destroy the boss car but if not the boss’ thugs will get you. The Driver Jobs have events like Hot Car (here you try to get a stolen vehicle to the client without even a tiny dent) Be The Cop (here you have race some fast squad vehicle to take down any crime lords).CONCLUSION:
Even cops and Bosses crash against barriers or traffic don’t expect a challenge, the game is boring. Visually it is disappointing; Sony’s handheld is really good. But the background stands out well, you scene always changes in the races but the car models are not that sexy as expected. The soundtrack is good in the game that goes unnoticed. There is also an eclectic music collection from many different artists. The game has a story but falls apart pretty fast, to a point were you don’t care the reason you became thewheelman. Controls make the vehicle a bit awkward and hard at times, the graphics are not that bad but PSP could have handled it much better. The voice acting is performed well by Maggie Q. There isn’t much challenge with the single-player game. You are able to race up to four players online through Infrastructure mode. Very possibly this is on of its weakest entries from Need for Speed franchise.
